Q: What should I bring with me to camp at Kids Outdoor Club?

We are looking forward to having a lot of fun and creating some very special memories for the kids. Kids Outdoor Club is an outdoor program, so please make sure your child is properly attired. The kids will often get dirty, wet and sometimes muddy. We are OPEN rain or shine. Only if the weather is deemed unsafe (i.e. high winds), will we take the group to an indoor location like the Academy of Sciences. Please bring:?

  • Layers of clothes (the weather in Golden Gate Park can vary dramatically within a day)
  • Packed lunch (Monday - Thursday)
  • Special snacks
  • Water bottle
  • Sunscreen
  • Hat/Sunglasses
  • Medications (i.e. inhalers for asthma)
  • Rainboots if rain or drizzle is forecast

Q: Do I need to bring a lunch and snacks?

We provide snacks (pretzels and fruit) everyday and on Fridays in the summer, we host a BBQ lunch and ice cream (included in price). Parents do not need to pack a lunch unless your child has certain dietary restrictions. Also, please let us know if your child is a vegetarian or has any food allergies.

Parents pack lunch every day except friday where kids outdoor club provides a bbq lunch for all CAMPERS AT NO EXTRA CHARGE.

Q: What are the safety rules and regulations each camper is expected to follow?

Adult/child ratios range from 4:1 to no more than 9:1, depending on age and activity. When a group of young
campers are heading out on a nature walk, the group will consist of a maximum of 10 campers and a minimum of 2 adult coaches, plus additional high school age coaches. A group of 16 older campers playing a game of soccer at Speedway Meadow would also be supervised by a minimum of 2 coaches.

When our younger campers venture out on a nature excursion, they each wear a red, Kids Outdoor Club t-shirt for identification and to help keep the group together. Our coaches are equipped with a walkie-talkie and cell phones on any excursion away from our base camp.

Parents and childcare providers are required to sign their child(ren) in and out each day, and provide us with a phone number at which he/she can be reached at any time.

We set up a perimeter around our camp site with tall, red flags that our campers must stay within. We have a drop off area for backpacks, jackets, et in the morning. We ask our campers to stay down on the flat field and away from the slope except during lunch and snack breaks. Campers will need to gain permission to go beyond our red boundary markers, and campers may NEVER venture near the road or into the woods or restrooms without a camp coach.

We take campers to the restrooms at Speedway Meadow in small groups. We work with the maintenance crew to ensure the bathrooms are clean and stocked with paper at all times. Our coaches always check the restrooms for
cleanliness and safety before our campers use them. No camper is permitted to go to the restroom alone.
